Danone-AQUA again won the Waste Reduction Performance award by producers from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The award was presented by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar to the President Director of PT. Tirta Investama (Danone-AQUA), Corine Tap virtually today. This award is the third time given to Danone-AQUA. Previously in 2016 and 2017 Danone-AQUA also received the same award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for its commitment, consistency and improvement in performance achievements from year to year in managing packaging waste.

Related to this award, the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar said "Even though challenges in managing waste are getting heavier going forward, but I am still optimistic we will be able to face and overcome them. That optimism continues to grow, because we have done a lot with quite positive results. And I know exactly that community support is getting stronger from year to year. Therefore, in handling waste for Indonesia, among the countries in the world, the role of the community is quite prominent. On the other hand, steps and efforts in structuring policies and regulations continue to be developed to meet the needs of the community and the dynamics of waste and environmental issues.

Minister Siti Nurbaya also thanked and appreciated the proactive and concrete steps that have been taken by award recipients to reduce waste from their business activities as well as concrete steps on waste reduction road maps by producers as stipulated in Permen 75/2019. According to him, this is an important benchmark for other producers, where environmental regulations should not be an obstacle for the business sector. Business activities that always maintain environmental harmony and sustainability are the business of the future.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT. Tirta Investama (Danone-AQUA), Corine Tap also appreciated the Government of Indonesia for encouraging and supporting the private sector to continue to innovate in managing its packaging waste. "We would like to thank KLHK for giving this award, encouraging us to continue to innovate and find ways to manage our packaging waste. We are very proud that this is the third time for our company to receive an award, in managing & reducing our packaging waste. We work with various parties, therefore, we want to present this year's award to our partners in the fields of education, collection and recycling, and no less important for scavengers who are always at the forefront of this effort. We hope that through this award, Danone-AQUA will continue to innovate and find ways to manage and reduce our packaging waste, recover more packaging than we used in 2025 at the same time as promoting and developing an inclusive waste management model together with scavengers, garbage bank and TPS3R "

Since 1983 Danone-AQUA has introduced gallon bottled drinking water that can be reused and recycled. With the Gallon model, 70% of the Danone-AQUA business is fully circular. Then in 1993, Danone-AQUA pioneered the first recycling program, "AQUA Cares". At present, Danone-AQUA has been able to collect 12,000 tons of plastic annually through six Recycling Business Units in various cities in Indonesia.

Since 2018, Danone-AQUA has launched the #BijakBerplastik movement which focuses on three commitments to address the problem of plastic waste in Indonesia, namely the development of waste collection infrastructure, education related to waste management, and product packaging innovation. Danone-AQUA also encourages various innovative solutions based on collaboration to deal with the problem of plastic waste in Indonesia, so that it can support the government's efforts to reduce 70% of plastic waste in the ocean by 2025.

"We are targeting that by 2025 we can achieve our ambition to collect more plastic than we use, ensure that all our packaging can be recycled, and increase the proportion of recycled content in our bottles to 50%." Corine added.

This award is given in commemoration of World Environment Day as well as part of the Indonesian government's efforts to stimulate waste reduction initiatives by producers. Throughout 2019, there are 3 areas of the company that are monitored and evaluated by KLHK, namely the manufacturing, retail, and food and beverage industries. Based on this, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) gave awards to four companies that were deemed responsible and innovatively carried out various waste management initiatives. The award was handed over to PT. Tirta Investama (Danone-AQUA) in the category of waste reduction performance, as well as to PT. Rekso Nasional Food (Mc Donald), PT. Fast Food Indonesia (KFC), and PT. Sari Rasa Nusantara (Sate Khas Senayan) in the category of waste reduction initiatives.
